All Port Washington students in 3rd grade are invited to build a model boat and race it on Baxter’s Pond on Sunday, June 2. Boat building instruction will be held in the Port Washington Library and by pre-registration. Racing heats will also be by pre-registration. All 3rd grade sailors must be accompanied by an adult. Racing slots are limited but the fun is unlimited.
Step 1 – Pre-Register Each participant must register for a building date AND racing heat. Visit https://modelboatregatta.com/
Step 2 – Save 4 Cartons Each boat is made up for four (4) ½ gallon cartons. Cartons can be from milk, juice, etc but must be cardboard and with the screw top. Collect from home or from friends.
Step 3 – Build Your Boat Attend one (1) day in person to construct your sailing vessel. Allow a minimum of 60 minutes. Building dates are posted at www.modelboatregatta.com. Every participant must register to build a boat AND register to race. Things you must bring: An adult. Parent participation is required. This is not a drop off event. 4 – CLEAN ½ gallon cartons with tops attached. Can be milk, juice, etc. but must be cardboard and with the screw top.
We will provide: Instructors to guide the boat builders. Materials assemble the cartons and for the mast and sail.
Step 4 – Race your Boat Race Day is Sunday, June 2 at Baxter’s Pond at Shore Road & Central Drive. Several heats will take place beginning at 9:30 am at 20-minute intervals. Registration is required.
